Day 1: Arrival in Uganda

Your birding adventure begins upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, where your guide will welcome you and transfer you to your accommodation. Depending on your arrival time, you may enjoy a brief birding excursion around Entebbe. Species such as the Gray Crowned Crane, African Open-billed Stork, and Black-and-White Casqued Hornbill are commonly spotted here. Relax and prepare for the exciting days ahead.

Day 2: Shoebill Search in Mabamba Wetlands

Today is dedicated to searching for the magnificent Shoebill Stork in the renowned Mabamba Wetlands, one of Uganda’s most important birding areas. A guided boat ride through the papyrus-lined channels provides the best chance to see this prehistoric-looking bird in its natural habitat. Along the way, you’ll also encounter a variety of wetland species, including the African Jacana, Malachite Kingfisher, and Purple Heron. The experience of spotting the Shoebill in the wild is a highlight of any birding safari. Afterward, return to your lodge for an overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park

After breakfast, set off for Lake Mburo National Park, a birding and wildlife gem located in southwestern Uganda. The journey offers chances to spot birds such as the Long-crested Eagle, Lizard Buzzard, and Black Kite along the roadside. Upon arrival at the park, enjoy an evening birding walk to explore the park’s habitats, which range from savannah to wetlands. Look out for species like the Bare-faced Go-away-bird, African Wattled Lapwing, and Crested Barbet. Overnight at a lodge near the park.

Day 4: Birdwatching in Lake Mburo National Park

Spend the day exploring Lake Mburo National Park, a birding paradise with over 300 recorded species. Start with a morning boat ride on Lake Mburo, where you’ll see waterbirds like the African Fish Eagle, White-backed Night Heron, and African Finfoot. The savannah and acacia woodland habitats offer opportunities to spot species such as the Emerald-spotted Wood Dove, Lilac-breasted Roller, and Red-faced Barbet. Additionally, the park is home to wildlife like zebras, impalas, and elands, making this a perfect blend of birding and game viewing. Return to your lodge for the evening.

Day 5: Return to Entebbe with Birding En Route

After an early morning birding session, begin the journey back to Entebbe. Along the way, you’ll stop at select birding hotspots to maximize your chances of spotting more species.
